Tension Test

Welcome to today’s tutorial. In this guide, we’ll walk you step by step through how to properly install the embroidery hoop on the EOC03 and perform a fabric tension test. This is a critical step for every embroidery project. Correct hoop installation and proper thread tension ensure your designs stitch smoothly and beautifully—while also helping protect your machine from unnecessary strain. Whether you’re new to embroidery or an experienced user, this tutorial will help you complete the process with greater confidence and precision.

Preparation Before You Begin

Before getting started, prepare the following materials:

  • Embroidery hoop
  • Stabilizer
  • Test fabric
  • Upper thread
  • Bobbin
Preparation Before You Begin

When threading the machine:

  • Raise the presser foot.
  • Place the thread underneath the thread guide plate.
  • Ensure the bobbin thread passes through the narrow slot at the bottom.

This setup is essential for maintaining stable and consistent thread tension during embroidery.

Step 1: Prepare the Embroidery Hoop

1.Remove the embroidery hoop from the machine.

2.Loosen the screw on the hoop.

3.Separate the inner ring from the outer ring.

You will notice small arrows marked on both rings. These arrows must align with each other during installation to ensure correct positioning.

Step 2: Hoop the Stabilizer and Fabric

1.Place a piece of stabilizer over the outer ring.

2.Leave some extra margin around the edges so it can be secured firmly.

3.Lay your test fabric on top of the stabilizer and outer ring.

4.Position the inner ring over the fabric, making sure the arrows on both rings are aligned.

4.Press the inner ring downward until it fully snaps into the outer ring.

5.Gently pull the fabric edges to ensure the surface is smooth, flat, and evenly tensioned.

6.Tighten the screw securely.

7.The fabric should feel firm and properly stretched within the hoop, without wrinkles or looseness.

Step 3: Attach the Hoop to the Machine

1.Raise the presser foot.

2.Align the hoop latch with the slot on the machine.

3.Press downward firmly.

You should hear a distinct “click,” indicating that the hoop has been securely installed and locked into place.

Step 4: Perform a Tension Test

With the hoop properly installed, you can proceed with the tension test.

1.On the machine screen, select the “Text” function.

2.Choose the capital letter “I” (or any letter you prefer).

3.Do not adjust any other settings, such as size or stitch density.

For the EOC03, the recommended upper thread tension setting is 4. The higher the number, the tighter the upper thread tension.

4.Adjust the upper thread tension to 4.

5.Start the embroidery process and wait until it completes.

Step 5: Check the Result

Once stitching is finished, turn the fabric over and examine the back side of the test embroidery. Ideally:

  • The bobbin thread should cover approximately one-third of the back surface.

If you see too much bobbin thread, the upper thread tension is too high—slightly reduce the tension. If you see too little bobbin thread, the tension is too low—slightly increase it. Make small adjustments as needed until the tension appears balanced.

Conclusion

This completes the full tutorial on installing the embroidery hoop and performing a tension test on the EOC03. Proper hoop installation and balanced thread tension are essential for achieving smooth, high-quality embroidery results while helping protect your machine over time. Taking a few extra minutes to perform these steps can significantly improve your stitching performance. Thank you for your reading.
